  • The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017

    These Regulations impose duties on employers and those with responsibilities for carrying out activities including optimizing and justifying medical exposures, and administering ionising radiation for diagnostic or treatment benefit. Whilst these regulations are broadly similar to the 2000 regulations (which are now repealed), they do expand requirements in certain areas – for example, formal recognition of Medical Physics Experts, and the licensing of the administration of radioactive substances to persons for diagnosis, treatment or research.

    The Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations 2001 implement basic safety standards for the protection of the health of workers and the general public against the dangers arising from ionising radiation and impose requirements for that purpose on operators of premises where radioactive substances are present (in quantities exceeding specified thresholds). Draft legislation for REPPIR 2019 has already been released, but the 2001 regulations are still in force.
